Trainee Outdoor Instructor

Fantastic opportunity to gain a wide range of outdoor qualifications in the unique setting of the Isle of Man!

Our centre has an excellent record and our training programme is one of the best in the Outdoor Industry.


The scheme balances training with voluntary work. During the first part of the season - March to the end of April - you will undergo a considerable amount of training opportunities including kayaking, mountain biking, lifesaving, hill walking, power boating.

From May onwards you will be actively involved in delivering outdoor activity sessions to groups of young people and adults using our centre. This period allows you to gain experience and develop your skills ready to progress your national governing body awards.

During late season we consolidate these awards and where appropriate complete the assessments required.

Requirements

Individuals must be at least 18 years old as most governing bodies recognise this as the minimum age for someone to take charge of young people. The planned tarning programme for 2011 will inlcude the opportunity to obtain the following qualifcations all at our expense

Enhanced CRB check
BCU 1 star and 2 star
BCU Foudation safety and rescue award
UKCC Level 1 Paddlesports coach
HSW first aid award
SPA Training subject to relevant previous experience
MLTB WGL Training and assessment
RLSS Bronze medallion
RYA Power boat Level 2
RYA Safety Boat Award
RYA Level 2 Dinghy Sailing plus Seamanship skills and assistant intructor depending upon ability
Archery Basic Instructor Award
SMBLA Trail Cycle Leader Training
Success in any of the above the above will depend upon your own ability and input.
In addition trainees may be selected for specialist training in other roles such as gorge walking, coasteering, sea kayaking, sailing, climbing.

We will pay all cost involved in the above courses including course fees, registartion fees, memberships where appropriate,

You will assist qualified instructors on delivery of activity sessions this enables you to train and gain logged hours towards coaching awards and where/when qualified you will deliver activity sessions yourself with remote supervision to a basic level within standard operational procedures.
