In the last four years, British athletes have won multiple World Cup, European Championship, World Championship and Olympic medals in Canoe Slalom. British Canoeing has an aspiration to deliver even more medals at more championship events and to inspire the next generation of paddlers through exceptional performances.
The role will operate within the British Canoeing Athlete Pathway Framework which supports the development of a sustainable regional infrastructure for talented paddlers throughout England. They will play an important role in delivering a stronger talent pool with an increase in numbers and depth of paddlers enabling every athlete to fulfil their potential and establish a sporting habit for life.
The primary remit of the Lee Valley Regional Pathway coach will be to support the England Slalom Talent Programme in the Southern region helping to strengthening the depth of athletes from the surrounding community at all stages of the pathway. A key part of the role will be to help develop sustainable access and opportunity for white water and slalom coaching at Lee Valley White Water Centre.
The goal of the role is to contribute to the delivery of a world leading talent pathway and by working in conjunction with local clubs, coaches, volunteers and parents ensure that opportunities and experiences for athletes based local to LVWWC exist for them to progress, thrive and excel.
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate an understanding of the skills required by a Coach operating at Slalom Coach Award level and above, as well as experience of operating in a club environment with young people and volunteers.
Essential Requirements
- National Coaching qualifications appropriate for this position (Slalom Coach Award or equivalent)
- Experience working within a talent development environment.
- An understanding of the components of Canoe Slalom Performance and the ability to develop, deliver and modify,
as required, individualised training and preparation
programmes to improve the performance of young athletes.
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of talent
athletes, club coaches and parents at club and regional
level.
- Awareness of the applicable British Canoeing safeguarding
and child protection policies.
- Full driving licence
